Saudi coalition reports drone interceptions as fires follow strikes on Russian refineries

The Saudi-led coalition said its air defences destroyed two Houthi drones heading toward Riyadh province, while Ukrainian drone attacks were reported to have set another Russian refinery ablaze. Alongside those air-operation reports, US officials were quoted as saying President Donald Trump expected to resume bombing Iran after the November midterm elections—a reported intention, not an announced strike order.

Saudi interception claim amid reports of explosions

A statement from the coalition spokesperson, reposted by Steve Lookner, said two drones launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh province had been intercepted and destroyed. GlobalOSINTHQ separately relayed the announcement. The statement is the coalition’s account of the defensive action, rather than independent confirmation of its outcome. Earlier posts described an explosion in Riyadh without air-raid sirens and a ballistic-missile attack on Jazan. The available accounts do not establish whether the reported Riyadh explosion was connected to the interception, or what damage, if any, resulted from either incident. Riyadh report · Jazan report

The prospect of renewed US air strikes emerged in reporting attributed to The Wall Street Journal. GlobalOSINTHQ said Trump had rejected Iran’s proposed seven-day ceasefire and privately told aides he expected to resume bombing after the midterms. The account also said the scale of any strikes remained unclear and his position could change. It therefore describes deliberations about future action, not evidence that an operation has been authorised or launched. WSJ report, via GlobalOSINTHQ

Ilsky fire follows the continuing blaze at Perm

Osinttechnical reported a fire at Russia’s Ilsky oil refinery following a Ukrainian drone strike. It had earlier described a Friday-night raid into western Russia, citing local channels for claims that hundreds of drones were in the air, principally targeting Moscow and Krasnodar. The reported scale of the raid was not accompanied by a verified drone count. Ilsky · Raid report

At Perm, the same account said the refinery continued to burn following the previous night’s attack. It cited industry sources speaking to Reuters as saying damage to pipelines, storage facilities and processing units had shut the refinery down. This was a report of continuing damage from an earlier strike, separate from the new Ilsky fire. Perm damage report

Tracking posts identify aircraft, but not their missions

An overnight repost by DefenceGeek repeated that Coronet East 116’s leading formation had passed Gibraltar heading toward Aviano. The excerpt ends before further details, so it does not establish an arrival or subsequent destination. Another tracking item, published by WarWatchIntel, identified an E-6B by hex code AF760E but supplied no callsign, route or location. Neither report supports conclusions about a new combat assignment or a change in nuclear readiness. Coronet update · E-6B sighting

SkyGlass12 also labelled an Australian P-8 using callsign ASY197 as on the ground at Hickam Field in Hawaii. Its accompanying suggestions about reconnaissance, exercises or allied support were possibilities, not an established mission. The observation is useful as a tracking lead without turning a single aircraft’s reported location into evidence of a wider deployment. P-8 alert

Blackbeard carried on a Super Hornet test flight

The Aviationist described newly released imagery showing Castelion’s Blackbeard weapon carried by a US Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet during a test flight. The report concerns carriage of the weapon: it does not say the missile was launched or that hypersonic performance was demonstrated on that flight. The Aviationist

In Australia, the publication said the 1st Aviation Regiment would hold a sundown ceremony in Darwin on September 30, marking 20 years of Tiger attack-helicopter service and the transition to the AH-64E Apache. The ceremony remained an upcoming milestone in the account. Tiger retirement

The Aviationist also reported findings from the Thunderbirds F-16 crash investigation: turned compressor vanes had led to progressively more serious engine damage and a loss of thrust. Elsewhere, GlobalOSINTHQ reported a fatal L-410 transport-aircraft crash in Kenge, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, naming senior military officers among those killed. Its casualty wording was ambiguous, so it does not support a clear combined death toll. F-16 investigation · L-410 report
