Executive Summary
CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper is reportedly pushing for renewed strikes against Iran to shift Tehran's negotiating position, even as the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports continues to disrupt commercial shipping. The USS Abraham Lincoln is finally being relieved by the USS George Washington after an extended 250-day deployment marred by severe crew morale and mental health crises. Regional tensions remain high across the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula, with Israel and Lebanon agreeing on an international framework to verify Hezbollah's disarmament, and Saudi Arabia considering a ground offensive against the Houthis following recent drone strikes on its infrastructure. Separately, U.S. intelligence agencies expressed "low confidence" in an Israeli-derived report regarding an alleged Iranian assassination plot against President Trump.

Analysis
The operational environment in the Middle East indicates a sustained state of escalation, with U.S. CENTCOM leadership actively advocating for renewed offensive operations against Iran despite the ongoing blockade. The U.S. Navy's logistical and human capital strain is becoming evident; the USS Abraham Lincoln's unprecedented deployment length has triggered a mental health crisis onboard, forcing a long-overdue carrier swap with the USS George Washington.
Diplomatic tracks are proceeding in parallel with military posturing. The agreement on international monitors for Hezbollah disarmament represents a fragile but tangible diplomatic step between Israel and Lebanon, though Israel remains highly skeptical of foreign military presences. Meanwhile, the Houthis are forcing a strategic recalculations in Riyadh, pushing Saudi Arabia toward contemplating direct ground intervention in Yemen.
What to watch next: The arrival of the USS George Washington in the CENTCOM area of responsibility and whether Adm. Cooper's push for renewed strikes translates into actionable military orders. Additionally, watch for the operationalization of the Hezbollah disarmament monitoring mission and any retaliatory actions from the Houthis regarding Saudi military posturing.

The U.S. Air Force has lost roughly 25% of its fleet of MQ-9 “Reaper” Medium-Altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicles since the start of the Iran War, accounting for at least 45 drone airframes each costing between $30 and $50 million depending on loadout, three U.S. officials familiar with the matter tell the Washington Post. → tweet link

Citing The New York Times, TWZ reports that a senior U.S. military official said Iranian drones provided commanders with the F-15E’s location, speed and direction, potentially allowing a dispersed missile team to target the aircraft.
The significance may be less about a sophisticated “drone swarm” than the use of inexpensive drones as airborne sensors. After U.S. and Israeli strikes degraded Iran’s conventional air defense network, drones could provide a relatively cheap and expendable way to detect and track aircraft and pass targeting information to dispersed shooters.
The report also connects the account to the previously reported “jellyfish” or “minefield” of drones seen by the F-15E crew shortly before they ejected, while cautioning that it remains unclear whether those drones were actually involved in the shootdown.
If accurate, the incident illustrates a broader lesson demonstrated in Ukraine: cheap, distributed sensors can help cue much more expensive weapons against high value targets. → tweet link

The U.S. is sending the USS George Washington (CVN-73) to the Middle East to replace USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), according to U.S. officials cited by the Wall Street Journal.
@WarshipCam published these images of the Washington, along with the Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG-86) and Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls (CG-62) transiting the Malacca Strait westbound earlier today. The Malacca Strait connects the Pacific and Indian oceans.
The rotation comes as the Lincoln approaches 250+ days deployed and roughly 200 consecutive days without a port call. The carrier was originally scheduled to deploy in November 2025 but was redirected to the Middle East in January ahead of Operation Epic Fury.
Since then, Lincoln and its air wing have supported the U.S. air campaign against Iran and the ongoing blockade of Iranian ports.
The extended deployment is now drawing scrutiny from lawmakers over reported shortages of basic supplies, water and plumbing problems, mail disruptions, deck-safety concerns and deteriorating mental health among sailors.
The Navy has not publicly confirmed the reported conditions. The carrier rotation itself, however, was reportedly planned before the concerns were raised.

Lawmakers are demanding answers from the U.S. Navy amid reports of a mental health crisis, including multiple attempted suicides, onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) currently deployed to the Middle East to support military operations and the ongoing naval blockade against Iran.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao on Wednesday to express “serious concern” about reports involving a shortages of “basic supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, deck safety concerns” onboard the Lincoln.
According to reports from the Navy Times and Stars and Stripes, citing family members and spouses of Sailors assigned to the Lincoln, people aboard the ship are suffering from exhaustion, suicidal thoughts and low morale, with some alleging that Sailors have made multiple attempts to jump overboard requiring intervention from other Servicemembers.
Amid the wave of concerning reports from the Lincoln, Navy leadership met with the family of Sailors who are deployed aboard the Abraham Lincoln on Thursday in San Diego, listening to concerns and stories while pledging to support those onboard, according to Stars and Stripes. → tweet link

The USS George Washington (CVN-73), USS Shoup (DDG-86) and USS Robert Smalls (CG-62) have transited the Singapore Strait westbound.
The Washington is the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, the U.S. Navy's permanently forward deployed carrier strike group in the Indo-Pacific. A westbound transit through Singapore puts the group into the Indian Ocean, providing a potential route toward the Middle East without requiring movement through the Strait of Malacca's eastern approaches in the opposite direction.
The movement comes as the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) approaches its ninth month deployed with nearly a month's transit to get home and may provide some temporary relief until the USS Theodrore Roosevelt (CVN-71) deploys and arrives on station. → tweet link

Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia are reportedly being considered for a mission to verify Hezbollah’s disarmament in southern Lebanon.
I don't like this idea. Israel does not need another foreign military presence on its border. The foreign UN Peacekeeping forces did not help, and when things became intense, they ran away. Lebanon should be responsible for dismantling Hezbollah’s weapons and military infrastructure. International partners can assist with verification without becoming a permanent force along Israel’s frontier.
And if Hezbollah rebuilds, Israel must retain full freedom to act. What do you think? → tweet link
