Executive Summary
Tensions have sharply escalated following the expiration of the US-Iran ceasefire memorandum of understanding (MOU), with Iran launching ballistic missiles at the UAE and attacking commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon is simultaneously evaluating a potential US troop pullback from the Persian Gulf—a long-standing Iranian demand—though a maritime blockade remains in effect. Diplomatic efforts remain stalled, with US Special Envoy Jared Kushner noting Iran's lack of interest in a deal, while the "Board of Peace" alters its disarmament framework for Hamas in Gaza. Meanwhile, suspected Israeli airstrikes hit northern Syria, and regional frictions are emerging between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over their respective responses to the Iran war.
Key Events
- Iran fired two ballistic missiles at the United Arab Emirates, triggering seek-shelter warnings in Dubai just one day after the official US-Iran ceasefire agreement expired. → link
- Iranian forces attacked multiple commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in at least one seafarer casualty and the IRGC stopping a UAE-managed cargo ship. → link
- The Pentagon is evaluating a potential US troop pullback from the Persian Gulf, a move supported by CENTCOM head Adm. Bradley Cooper and demanded by Tehran. → link
- Suspected Israeli airstrikes targeted the Abu al-Dhuhur military airbase in Syria’s Idlib region overnight, with Israel sharing highly classified intelligence with the US beforehand. → link
- The "Board of Peace" is considering demanding a wholesale Hamas weapons handover before any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, shifting away from a phased framework to secure Israeli approval. → link
Analysis
The expiration of the US-Iran MOU has immediately resulted in kinetic actions by Tehran, specifically targeting the UAE and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This signals a return to Iran's strategy of using regional pressure to counter US economic blockades and sanctions. The US response appears mixed: while CENTCOM leadership contemplates a strategic troop withdrawal from vulnerable Gulf bases, diplomatic channels remain stalled.
In the Levant, Israel continues to actively target perceived threats in Syria while navigating stalled hostage and disarmament negotiations in Gaza. The "Board of Peace's" potential shift to demand immediate wholesale Hamas disarmament risks alienating the group, which took months to bring to the table. Furthermore, emerging financial friction between Saudi Arabia and the UAE indicates shifting regional alignments and disagreements over how to handle the fallout of the Iran war. Watch for further maritime disruptions in Hormuz, potential US or Israeli retaliatory strikes against Iranian assets, and the internal dynamics of the Gaza disarmament framework.

Tankers have just departed RAF Mildenhall (EGUN) and the final 3 F-22 "Raptor" fast-jets with "FF" tails have launched from RAF Fairford (EGVA) to begin their flight home to Langley (KLFI). Due to an issue with one of the original tankers planned for this trip @ArmchairAdml, a replacement "BORA85" arrived from Lajes (LPLA) earlier today:
KC-46A "BORA82" 11-46058 #AE5FA5 (Flying) KC-46A "BORA83" 19-46109 #AF4F4D (Broken) KC-46A "BORA84" 18-46047 #AE5F9A (Later) KC-46A "BORA85" 18-46056 #AE5FA3 (Flying) F-22A (x3) "TREND53" flight - 05-4104, 08-4152, 09-4173
BORA82/85 will take the jets to Mid-Atlantic where they'll hand off to BORA84 to take them into CONUS. BORA82/85 will then return to Lajes @Azorean_Lion.
