Executive Summary
Tensions between the US/Israel and Iran have sharply escalated, marked by a US halt in negotiations with Tehran and the expectation of new economic sanctions. The United Arab Emirates has completely suspended all trade and financial transactions with Iran following Iranian anti-ship and ballistic missile strikes near UAE waters. Israel is actively widening its operational theater, bombing Syrian military infrastructure to prevent Turkish deployments near Aleppo and launching extensive airstrikes in southern Lebanon as the ceasefire with Hezbollah collapses. Meanwhile, the IDF has initiated rare criminal investigations into its own forces regarding the killing of a 5-year-old girl and 15 Palestinian paramedics in Gaza.

Analysis
The Middle East is experiencing a multi-front escalation with the diplomatic track between Washington and Tehran effectively dead. The US has pivoted to a "strangling" strategy, but Iran remains defiant, with internal discussions focused on how much to escalate rather than whether to do so. Tehran has threatened to strike US military targets in southeastern Europe (Bulgaria and Cyprus) if the US escalates further.
Iran's maritime aggression is severely backfiring regionally. By firing missiles near the UAE and threatening navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has alienated a major economic partner, resulting in a total UAE trade embargo. Crude tanker rates are surging globally as shipping risks spike.
Israel is simultaneously opening new fronts or re-igniting old ones. The ceasefire in Lebanon is crumbling with active Israeli airstrikes, while Jerusalem is actively bombing Syria to counter growing Turkish influence. Watch for potential Iranian retaliatory actions in Europe or the Strait of Hormuz, and further Israeli mobilization of its newly delivered KC-46 tanker fleet for long-range strikes.

The motor tanker Hestia transited the Strait of Hormuz inbound overnight, using the U.S. designated safe route through Omani waters. However, as the vessel approached the United Arab Emirates (UAE), it abruptly reversed course near the same general area that was targeted in an Iranian missile attack yesterday. The Hestia has since moved into an anchorage in the Gulf of Oman off the UAE, where it is currently loitering rather than proceeding back towards the Persian Gulf. The reason the vessel turned around is currently unclear. → tweet link
