Executive Summary
Tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain at a boiling point, with the U.S. maintaining an active naval blockade that has redirected over 100 commercial vessels, while Congress passes new severe sanctions targeting Tehran. Diplomatic maneuvering is simultaneously underway, with President Trump at a "decision point" regarding the war and preparing to consult Gulf leaders. Meanwhile, China has stepped in as a mediator, privately urging Iran to rein in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia after a Houthi strike downed a Saudi F-15. The broader region remains volatile, with ongoing scrutiny of U.S. military actions in Iran by international bodies and complex political hurdles for U.S. arms sales to Israel.

Analysis
The current dynamic shows a precarious balance between military escalation and diplomatic backchannels. On the military front, the U.S. is heavily reinforcing CENTCOM—deploying F-16s and flying B-1 bomber sorties—while strictly enforcing a blockade that has reportedly halted Iranian oil exports since July. Iran is actively contesting U.S. airspace dominance, successfully downing multiple American drones.
However, the conflict is spilling over into Saudi Arabia, prompting a diplomatic response from China, which is urging Iran to control the Houthis. This signals a potential off-ramp or, at the very least, an attempt by regional powers to prevent a total collapse of Gulf security. Trump's upcoming meeting with Gulf leaders will be the primary event to watch, as it will determine whether the U.S. pivots toward a broader military campaign or seeks a negotiated settlement. Additionally, the maritime domain remains highly fragile; any disruption to the Strait of Hormuz or the Saudi East-West pipeline continues to send shockwaves through global oil markets.

UPDATE: Coronet East 114 moves to CENTCOM #IranWar
9x F-16C from 148th Fighter Wing are now approaching CENTCOM in the Eastern Mediterranean after departing Lajes (LPLA) in the Azores earlier today. This map is the approximate route flown by the jets.
1 further F-16C remains at Lajes due to a technical issue, while we now know 2 more diverted through New York airspace during the first leg of the journey, returning to their home base. It is unclear if these jets will make another attempt to deploy. → tweet link

A U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the “Jolly Rogers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 103 launches from the flight deck of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), currently operating in undisclosed regional waters in support of the U.S. naval blockade of Iran.
VFA-103 is part of Carrier Air Wing 7 aboard the George H.W. Bush, which has been operating in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility amid the ongoing maritime campaign.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says 104 commercial vessels have now been redirected since the blockade was resumed, as U.S. forces continue enforcing restrictions on maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports. → tweet link

U.N. backed human rights experts say there are “reasonable grounds” to believe the United States committed war crimes in two February strikes in Iran, including a strike on a school in Minab that killed more than 150 people, many of them children.
The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran said the school was a clearly identifiable civilian object and found no evidence it was being used for military purposes. A preliminary U.S. assessment previously found the U.S. was likely responsible for the strike but did not intentionally target the school, potentially because outdated intelligence incorrectly identified the site as a military installation. A Pentagon investigation has not released its findings.
The mission also alleged that a Feb. 28 strike on a sports complex and residential area in Lamerd killed 22 civilians. U.S. Central Command has denied carrying out a strike in Lamerd that day. The same U.N.-backed investigation concluded that Iranian security forces committed crimes against humanity during the government's crackdown on nationwide protests.
The same mission has accused Iranian security forces of crimes against humanity during the government's crackdown on protests. → tweet link

The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) has added three Iranians and two Iranian businesses to its sanctions list, while simultaneously designating three Cuban individuals and six Cuban state-owned entities and removing several Belarusian entities from the sanctions list.
The Iranian designations target Seyed Adel Heidari, Hossein Ali Zaker Hossein and Mohammad Mahdi Zaker Hossein, along with Bitbank and Pishtaz Simorgh Electronic Trade Company. According to Reuters, citing Iranian officials familiar with the matter, China has urged Iran to reign in the Houthis at the request of Saudi Arabia. This would be the second such communication with a third party nation acting as an interlocutor between Saudi Arabia and Iran, as Pakistan, who previously filled the role, ultimately failed when they communicated the message to Iran.
