Kyiv faces a fourth night of strikes as Ukraine reports gains near Lyman

Russian drones and missiles were again attacking Kyiv on Sunday evening, beginning what the Kyiv Independent described as a fourth consecutive night of strikes. The renewed bombardment came as President Volodymyr Zelensky reported progress in the Lyman sector and Ukrainian regional authorities announced a drone operation to deliver four tons of food to civilians in occupied Oleshky. Together, the reports described continued pressure on Ukrainian cities alongside Ukrainian offensive operations and an urgent humanitarian effort behind Russian lines. Kyiv · Lyman · Oleshky

Repeated attacks hit civilians and communications

The Kyiv Independent reported active air defenses and explosions over central Kyiv on Sunday evening. Its earlier account of the September 26–27 attack said one person had been injured and fires had broken out. Separately, its Sunday morning nationwide report put casualties from Russian attacks at 14 killed and 57 injured, and described a mass strike on Odesa Oblast. Those figures cover different reports and should not be added together. Overnight Kyiv attack · Nationwide casualties

In Sumy, local authorities said glide-bomb strikes on September 26 killed two people and injured 23, including four children, according to the Kyiv Independent. A later post from wartranslated attributed to Zelensky reports of damage in Kyiv to schools, kindergartens, residential buildings and the Saudi ambassador’s residence, as well as deaths and dozens of injuries. The latter account did not provide a precise casualty total. Sumy · Zelensky’s account

Communications infrastructure also featured in Russian claims. According to wartranslated, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its drones had hit Kyivstar and Omega Telecom data centers in Kyiv. That is a Russian military claim, not independent confirmation of the targets or the resulting disruption. Russian statement

Lyman operation combines frontline pressure with robotic assaults

Zelensky said Ukrainian troops had achieved “important results” on the Lyman axis through Operation Vivaldi and a separate active-defense operation involving an Air Assault Forces grouping, according to NOELreports. He identified Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka and Lyman as the most intense areas of fighting. His claim that Ukrainian units had killed or wounded 10,660 Russian troops during the week applied across all active frontline sectors, not solely to Lyman; his assertion that each loss had video support remains an official Ukrainian claim. Frontline statement

Reporting on Vivaldi also described new uses of unmanned ground vehicles. NOELreports said the NC13 unit deployed robots fitted with two Bullspike grenade launchers, firing on Russian positions before driving into shelters and detonating. The account attributed to the Third Army Corps the claim that Russian troops mistook the remotely operated machines for an assault group. Journalist Kateryna Lisunova separately described drones transporting ground robots into attack positions, presenting the technique as a way to reduce the exposure of Ukrainian infantry. Neither account establishes the operation’s territorial gains. Robotic assaults · Air-delivered ground vehicles

Ukraine’s General Staff also reported strikes on a drone storage, preparation and launch site in occupied Donetsk, ammunition depots in Krepenkyi and Luhansk, a logistics depot in Rovenky and a fuel depot in Novoamvrosiivske. These were reported attacks on Russian support facilities, rather than independently verified assessments of their destruction. General Staff account

Strikes reach Russian production facilities

Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed a September 26 strike on the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia’s Rostov region, according to NOELreports, saying a foundry fire and equipment damage had been recorded in five production buildings. A subsequent imagery assessment published by the same account described damage to at least five workshops across six buildings, including the foundry, optics, assembly and machining facilities. The imagery interpretation suggests damage across several parts of the plant but does not establish how much production capacity was lost. Ukrainian statement · Imagery assessment

Separately, wartranslated relayed an Exilenova+ report that a Ukrainian strike on the Ilsky refinery damaged three primary crude-processing units and the tank farm, halting production. The reported shutdown and extent of capacity affected remain claims from that account. Refinery report

Food drones reach Oleshky amid reports of blocked evacuation

Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said Ukrainian military and law-enforcement units cooperated to deliver four tons of food by drone to occupied Oleshky, the Kyiv Independent reported. Other accounts put the number of delivery points at about 100. Journalist Illia Ponomarenko, citing the Ukrainian military for the delivery, described residents facing starvation and alleged that Russian forces were preventing both humanitarian access and evacuation. Kateryna Lisunova reported that Russian sources had published footage of residents who were reportedly killed by landmines while travelling in search of food. She also relayed allegations that Russian forces were shooting down aid drones and confiscating supplies. These accounts underline the reported dangers surrounding access to food, but do not independently establish the circumstances of the deaths or every allegation against occupying forces. Air-defense plans advance, but deployment dates remain promises

Poland has offered to host a factory producing Patriot missiles for Ukraine if licensed production proceeds, Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said, according to NOELreports. She distinguished that offer from Poland’s own effort to obtain a Patriot service center and eventual domestic production. The offer is not evidence that a factory is operating or that missile deliveries have begun. Polish proposal

NOELreports also quoted Koretskyi, speaking to TSN, as saying Ukraine had successfully tested new interceptor drones against Russian jet-powered Shaheds and now needed to scale production. In a separate account, Kyrylo Budanov forecast mass deployment of interceptor drones within several months. Fire Point chief executive Iryna Terekh, meanwhile, said the 300-kilometer-range FP-7 ballistic missile was undergoing codification and forecast combat readiness for the longer-range FP-9 by the end of autumn. These are reported test results and development timelines, not confirmation of broad operational availability. Interceptor tests · Deployment forecast · Missile development

Diplomacy brings warnings rather than a reported breakthrough

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul urged Sergey Lavrov to halt hybrid attacks and further escalation during a 20-minute UN meeting, according to NOELreports’ account of the German delegation’s statement. Wadephul said such actions would not weaken support for Ukraine and linked renewed constructive dialogue to Russia ending its war. Separately, wartranslated reported his assessment that proposals for de-escalation had fallen on deaf ears. German delegation’s account · Wadephul’s assessment

Sanctions policy remained in focus. FaytuksNetwork reported a preliminary Swiss referendum result rejecting stricter neutrality rules that would have required Switzerland to stop sanctions against Russia and curb NATO cooperation. Ukraine separately sanctioned 44 people involved in Russian parliamentary elections in occupied territories; its presidential office alleged forced voting, mass falsification and predetermined turnout, the Kyiv Independent reported. Swiss preliminary result · Ukrainian sanctions

Asked by Lisunova whether Donald Trump was ready to use the mechanism associated with Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill, Zelensky said he did not know and that the decision belonged to the US president. He said he had urged its use if negotiations failed to move forward. A possible prisoner exchange offered a narrower prospect for movement: Budanov said one could take place as early as the following week, according to NOELreports, but did not announce a completed agreement.
